Venida E. McCart, 94, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Liberty Village in Maryville. She was born March 9, 1924 in Granite City, the daughter of the late James Henry and Margaret May (Jones) Goodnight. She had worked at Granite City Army Depot for many years and retired from Scott Air Force Base in 1979 after many years of government service in administration.

She was a member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City, was a volunteer with Gateway Regional Medical Center and was a member of the Federal Employees Retirees. She cherished her family and loved gardening and dancing. She was very flamboyant, enjoyed an occasional drink and loved the color of green.

Some of her favorite things in life were cats, Volkswagen Beatles, St. Louis Cardinals, Cheryl’s lemon bars, Curtis’s pork steaks and her three favorite P’s, pizza, pasta and peanut butter. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Curtis Pounds of Wildwood, Missouri; a grandson and his husband, Jeffrey Pounds and Steve Baybo of St. Louis; a cousin, Patricia Sanness of Granite City; other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Carpenter.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Mark Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be accepted at the funeral home.
