Verna’s Obituary Verna (Peterson) Meverden, 99, Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019. She was born in Sturgeon Bay on April 26, 1919 to Martin and Lillian (Appel) Peterson. Verna graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1936 and attended Prospect Hall in Milwaukee for Journalism.

She married Moral Meverden at Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay on October 21, 1939. Verna and Moral spent their honeymoon in New York at the World’s Fair and Washington D.C. They had two children David Lee and Diane Kay.

Diane preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 2001. As the children were growing up, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.

Later she and her husband took four trips to Europe; a trip to South America for three countries; as well as Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico. They also went on many cruises. Verna and Moral also enjoyed bowling together in a league for many years.

Through the years, Verna enjoyed doing ceramics, crocheting, her Bridge Club friends, and dancing with her husband. She loved swimming and did synchronized swimming at the YWCA. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was involved with church women circles, book reviews and Sunday School.

Verna taught 3-year-old Sunday School for 48 years – and loved teaching the little ones. She was also very active with the Christian Women for over 20 years, having led many bible studies during that time. Verna is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Sally Meverden, Green Bay; six grandchildren, Paul (Theresa) Jahnke, Kristin (John) Blanchard, Todd Jahnke, Andrew (Kimberly) Meverden, Amy (Darren) Rook, Matthew (LeAnn) Meverden; 11 great-grandchildren, Noah Jahnke, Dominic and Colton Blanchard, Marshall and Nathaniel Jahnke, Emma and Alexander Meverden, Anabelle and Lorelei Rook, Hayden and Harlyn Meverden; and son-in-law, Daniel Jahnke, Green Bay.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Moral; daughter, Diane Jahnke; her parents; brother, Roland; and sister, Katharine. Friends may call at Trinity Lutheran Church, 330 S. Broadway from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 26. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. with Rev.

Rachel Knoke officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.
