Viola E. (Sutorius) Shockney, 94, of Sandusky, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018 in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Sandusky on February 13, 1924 to the late Anthony and Carrie Sutorius. A 1944 graduate of Sandusky High School, Viola worked 30 years for GM – New Departure.

A longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sandusky, she loved to garden and decorate her home. She loved to shop, especially downtown and in the mall. She also loved antiques.

Her family fondly remembers her baking, and it is her family that meant the most to Viola. Even with 30 years at work, she took care of home and family. She will be deeply missed.

Viola is survived by her daughters, Janet (Philip) Gardner, of Sandusky, and Phyllis (Otto) Lopez, of Bedminster, NJ; brother, Ray (Sue) Satorius; beloved caregiver, Nina Stuckey; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Phillip J. Shockney, in 2005; and brothers, Donald and Wayne. Friends may call from 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 until funeral services begin at 11 a.m. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave.

, Sandusky. Her son-in-law, Rev. Philip Gardner, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Margaretta Twp. Memorial contributions may be made in Viola’s name to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2211 Mills St., Sandusky, OH 44870. Condolences and gifts of sympathy may be shared with the family by visiting toftfuneralhome.com.
