Viola Ingeborg Olson Averett passed away on July 21, 2018 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was born December 12, 1927 along with her twin sister Violet Irene Olson in Scobey, Montana to Carl Andreas and Helma Amanda Thoreson Olson. Her family moved to Cowley, Wyoming where they farmed for many years.

She lost her twin sister Violet, through death, in 1930 which affected her for her entire life. She attended the Cowley schools for 9 years when her family moved to the neighboring town of Lovell. She graduated from Lovell High School in 1946.

She moved to Smithfield, Utah with her parents and her younger brother Vincent. Viola worked for Mode O Day clothing factory and then with Fox Picture Studios located in Denver, Colorado where she traveled throughout the western States with that company. Viola married Anthony Ralph Petta in 1949 and to that union was born a daughter, Ruth Ann.

This marriage ended in divorce and Ruth Ann was later adopted by her step father, Charles Ray Averett Jr. Viola attended, what is now, Utah State University, taking classes in the field of Business. In January 1956, she and her family were visited by a former neighbor and classmate, Charles Ray Averett Jr They had known each other since they were both 3 years of age but hadn’t had any contact with each other for 12 years when she had moved to Lovell and he had moved to Denver, Colorado with his family.

Charles was attending Brigham Young University at the time and found out that the Olson’s now lived in Smithfield, Utah. Charles and Viola started dating on the weekends and were married in the Logan, Utah L.D.S. Temple on June 1, 1956. They are the parents of 5 children: Ruth Ann Olsen, Brigham City, UT; Lloyd Olson Averett, Brigham City, UT; Kevin Olson Averett, Brigham City, UT; DeRay Olson (April) Averett, Ogden, UT; and DeVon Olson (Mindy) Averett, West Point, UT.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Viola served in several callings and was a very active temple attender. She shared her gifted talents of music, art, and poetry writing with her many friends and relatives. She is survived by her husband Charles; children; sister-in-law Gladys Olson; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren with one coming soon from Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl Andreas and Helma Amanda Thoreson Olson, her twin sister Violet, her sisters: Dagney Laing and Anna Johnson, brothers: Clifford, Helmer and Vincent and her grandson Lloyd Averett Jr. Funeral services will be Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Brigham City River Ward Chapel, 523 N. 100 W., Brigham City, UT. Viewings will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City and on Friday from 9:00 to 9:40 am at the Church. Interment in the Brigham City Cemetery.
