Schildt, age 85, Browns Valley, MN, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Browns Valley Health Center. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Browns Valley, with Father Gregory Frankman officiating. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton, MN.

Urn bearers will be Tim Schildt and Dan Schildt. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD is in charge of the arrangements.

Violet Rose was born June 29, 1933, to Otto and Rose (Hemmer) Gath in Luverne, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Beardsley, MN. Vi attended school in Beardsley, graduating from Beardsley High School in 1951.

On January 15, 1955, Violet married Donald Schildt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Beardsley. Vi and Don were blessed with six children. They lived on a farm outside of Browns Valley.

As well as being a farm wife, Vi was a cook at Valley Hai for 23 years. After retirement in 1986, they spent many hours on the lakes fishing. They moved into Browns Valley in 1987.

Vi was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She also belonged to the Red Hatters and served on the Library Board. Vi’s hobbies included bowling, reading, polka dancing, waltzing, and doing crafts, puzzles and puzzle books.

Vi crocheted and knitted many gloves, slippers and scarfs. A very lucky gambler, Vi enjoyed going to the casino and playing the slots. Above all, she loved spending time with the grandkids and her Mountain Dew.

Survivors include her children, Daniel (Rosie) Schildt of Snellville, GA, Ramona (Keith) Nielsen of Sisseton, SD, Tim (Sue) Schildt of Dallas, TX, daughter-in-law, Patty Schildt of Covington, GA; Anita (Dave) Tohm of Whitewood, SD, and Randy (Susan) Schildt of Montevideo, MN; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother Lloyd Gath of McGregor, MN. Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Schildt; parents, Otto and Rose Gath; son, Terry Schildt; grandson, Jason Schildt; and sister-in-law, Alberta Gath.
