Vivian L Terry June 29, 1936 – March 09, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook VIVIAN L. TERRY was born in Danville, Virginia on June 26, 1936 to parents, Charlie and Lillian Harris. She married Cornelius Terry and they later moved to New York City to live. Out of this union came three children, Clifton, Alvin and Kessler.

Vivian received instruction in accounting and was an Assistant Teacher in the New York City public school system. She also worked at Alexander’s Department Store where she retired after many years of service. Even in her retirement, Vivian wanted to remain busy and also worked at Laytner’s Linen & Home where she was loved and respected.

She received many awards and honors throughout her life. Vivian was a faithful servant of the Lord. She loved praising God in every way.

Vivian loved to sing and she sang in many Gospel choirs including GMWA (Gospel Music Workshop of America) and New York Community Choir. She worked tirelessly as a servant of God at Prince of Peace Tabernacle and wherever she served. Vivian was a faithful member of Word of Faith-Eagle’s Chapel church under the tutelage of her spiritual leader, the late Bishop Walter E. Holmes where she was ordained as an Elder and served as an Assistant Pastor.

Elder Terry loved people and was always there for anyone in their time of need. There was nothing she wouldn’t do to lend a helping hand. She was a pillar to her family, her church and her community.

Vivian loved to cook and everyone would wait in line for her food. Vivian is survived by her two sons, Clifton and Kessler; two grandsons, Justine and Kareem; two great-grandchildren, Alvin and Maddison; and a host of family, friends and her church family at Word of Faith-Eagle’s Chapel. Vivian Terry was a devoted wife, mother, friend and confidant.

She will be truly missed. We love you and miss you. Sleep in Eternal Peace.
