Obituary for Mrs. Vivian Mary (Matthews) Yelle Vivian Mary (Matthews) Yelle died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 84. She was born September 30, 1933 to Thomas and Lillian (Poupore) Matthews in Churubusco, New York. Vivian married Gaston Yelle on January 7, 1952 and together they had four children, Ona Rushford, Joanne Yelle, Larry (Helen) Yelle, and Nancy Johnston.

She was grandma to Shelley (Kevin) Mulverhill, Kevin (Erika) Yelle, Julie (Matthew) Clarke, Keith (Becky) Yelle, Lori (Anthony) Green, Mathew (Candi) Johnston, Mandie (Arron) Patterson, and Marc (Kristy Harrigan) Johnston, great-grandma to Tyler (Danielle) Matthews, Zachary Matthews, Lindsey (Corey Hill) Matthews, Kylie Hanley, Kacey Mulverhill, Ethen Green, Hailey Yelle, Sawyer Green, Jezlyn Johnston, Torie Butchino, Maxwell Clarke, Mavrick Johnston, Mason Johnston, Sloane Green, Eli Patterson, and Braelynn Yelle. Vivian was great-great-grandma to Kyler Hanley. She was anxiously waiting the arrival of a new great-granddaughter and a new great-great-granddaughter.

She is also survived by a very special niece, Sharon (Michael) McPherson and her brother, Lester “Billy” (Marjorie) Matthews and many nieces and nephews. Vivian was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother and sister-in-law, John and Peggy Matthews, her sister and brother-in-law, Gerald and Henrietta Yelle, a son-in-law, Donald Rushford and her grandson, Mathew Johnston. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Chateaugay and member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Vivian and Gaston ran the Churubusco Inn for years, she also sold Avon and Electrolux, but the job she loved most was being a grandma. She was an avid BINGO player and enjoyed visiting friends and family. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, June 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 18 in St. Patrick’s Church with Rev.

Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Vivian’s life. Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the North Country.
