Wallace “Wally” Roy Barbour, age 86, of Lake Odessa, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at home after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Wally was born on November 4, 1931 in Matherton, MI. He was the third child of Lula and Maurice Barbour.

He attended school in Carson City, playing basketball, baseball and football. He married Shirley Vance on July 30th, 1954. Shirley and Wally bought a farm in 1959 in Lake Odessa, where they remained throughout their 63-year marriage.

Together they raised 3 sons. Wally was a Korean War Veteran and after his discharge from service he worked for the State of Michigan Dept. of Corrections as an electrician.

He retired in 1982 at which time he continued working on the family farm with his boys. Shirley and Wally spent many winters in LaBelle, Florida with friends golfing, fishing and playing cards. Wally was also an avid hunter.

He was a terrific grandpa, spending hours with his grandchildren, teaching them how to play ball, ride bikes, and play cards. He loved attending their sporting events. He was “that” grandpa…the one they will always remember.

Wally is survived by the love of his life, Shirley, sons; Dan (Ann), Steve (Pam), Mark (Julie), grandchildren; Jermey (Kate), Nichole (Adam), Tracy (Rodrigo), Kristi (Wajde), Michael (Jessica), Rosie, 3. 5 great-grandchildren, and sister; Wilma Bennis. Preceding him in death were his parents Lula & Maurice along with sisters Shirley & Beverly.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Wally’s name can be made to the Lake Odessa VFW Post 4461 Scholarship Fund.
