Obituary of Wallace Holmes Wallace H. “Wally” Holmes, 87, of 254 Howard Ave. Jamestown, NY, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018, peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family. An area resident for most of his life, he was born March 12, 1931 in Orchard Park, NY, a son of Howard W. and Mary Beatrice Martin Holmes.

Wally was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School. Coming to Jamestown as a young child and growing up amongst a golf professional family, Wally went on to become a touring PGA professional. He was also the head pro at several country clubs including, Cassadaga, Lancaster, Conewango and of course, his beloved Maplehurst Country Club.

He later became the proprietor of Maplehurst Country Club which he has owned for the past 49 years. He and his family maintained a beautiful country club and Wally made many lifelong friends along the way. He loved everything about the game of golf, the art of magic, and would entertain many out of town magicians at the club house during the summer months.

More than anything Wally loved his family. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, NY, and was very active in the community as a member of the Jamestown Rotary Club, the Mt. Moriah Lodge 145 Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite Consistory, the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Youngstown Ohio Magic Club and was a life member of the Professional Golfers Association of America.

Surviving are his wife, Claudine Wells Holmes, three children, Howard (Joan) Holmes, Randall (Terri) Holmes both of Jamestown, Sherri (Royce) Swan of Kennedy, NY, six grandchildren, Royce Swan, Jr. of Lakewood, NY, Crystal (Ryan) Russell of Russell, PA, Chad Swan of Kennedy, NY, Ashley (Tony) Querrio of Jamestown, Amanda Holmes of Bemus Point, NY, Mackenna Holmes, Brianna Holmes both of Jamestown, a step-granddaughter, Jillian Swan of Busti, NY, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his loving dog and companion Divot. Beside his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert G. Holmes and his most beloved dog of 15 years, Bogie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Lakewood. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor will be celebrant.

Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. A Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

The family suggest that memorials be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701.
