Obituary of Valerie Wilcox Valerie L. Wilcox, 88, of Jamestown went to her heavenly home Monday June 4, 2018. She was born July 7, 1929 in Jamestown, NY the daughter of the late Herbert R. and Hedwig Dahl Johnson. Valerie graduated from Jamestown High School class of 1948.

For 45 years, she worked for the Jamestown Public School System in the cafeteria and served passionately as union representative for the cafeteria workers. She was an active member of the Fluvanna Community Church, enjoying Thursday’s with the Sippin’ Seniors group. She loved interacting with children of all ages through her work in the school system, church Sunday School, or the AWANA Program.

She loved music, from classical to country and especially enjoyed the symphony concerts, opera and the sacred song services at the Chautauqua Institution. In her younger years, she sang with George Beverly Shea and the Billy Graham Crusades. Valerie also loved to cook, helping at many church dinners over the years.

She and her late husband Allen traveled throughout the United States and Canada, always driving to their destination. Valerie loved animals, especially her cats Calico and Grey, and would never hesitate to take in a stray that needed a home. Everywhere she went, Valerie brought laughter and fun.

Surviving are her daughter, Willow (Gary) Brost of Florida; three grandchildren: Sean (Shannon) Brost, Devon (Bryant) Oskvig, and Ian Brost; five great grandchildren: Kari, Elliot, Arik, Hayden, and Elis; a brother in law, Leo Wilcox; sister in law, Margaret Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Allen E. Wilcox whom she married June 10, 1948 and who died June 29, 2015; an infant daughter; a brother Arnold Johnson; and a sister in law Isabelle Wilcox. A memorial service and visitation will be announced at a later date by the Lind Funeral Home.
