Obituary for Florence L. Hinson Florence L. “Flo” Hinson, 86, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was born on August 27, 1930, the daughter of the late Melvin and Marion Frazier Williams. Florence graduated from Food Trades High School in New York City, N.Y. Florence was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

She was active on the usher board, missionary society, a former Sunday school teacher and a treasurer of the benevolent fund. She was also a member of Senior Citizens Group at the First Lutheran Church, Jamestown Community College Marin Luther King Committee, Underground Railroad Tableau Committee, former member and worthy matron of Martha Chapter Eastern Star and past President and lifetime member of the PTA. Florence enjoyed bowling, crocheting and knitting.

She had worked at Bigelows Shoe Department in her earlier years. Florence had also worked as a teacher’s aide for Jamestown Public Schools for twenty- one years and retired from there in 1992. Florence is survived by her husband Clarence W. Hinson Sr., whom she married on July 25, 1953 in Jamestown, NY; by her son, Clarence W. Hinson, Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y.; her daughter, Debra Britton of Delaware, OH; her brother, Rev.

Ray (Delores) Frazier of Rutherford, N.J.; four grandchildren, Aaron Britton of Ohio, Andrew Britton of Ohio, Noah Hinson of Florida and Maura Hinson of Erie, PA; five great grandchildren, Kevin, James, Gabe, Ohan and Aleeyah and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard Modeste, Melvin Williams and Edward Williams; one sister, Evelyn Williams and one step sister, Alice Book. A funeral service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church 53 W. 23rd Street, Jamestown, NY on Friday, May 19th.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, NY. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
