Obituary for Richard R. “Grandpa Joe Wells Richard R. “Grandpa Joe” Wells, 91, of Ashville, NY and a life- long resident of Chautauqua County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 8, 1925 in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late John C. and Lena May Ploss Wells. Richard served in the U.S. Navy during World World II from 1942 until 1946.

He had worked as a photographer and writer for The Post- Journal. He retired from Crescent Tool Company after thirty- five years. and retired from there when they moved out of town.

After he retired he enjoyed providing rides the Amish. He was a member to the Blockville United Methodist Church. Richard was an avid New York Yankees Baseball fan.

He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed sitting outside and meeting people as they passed by him. Richard was a very social person and enjoyed meeting new people where ever he traveled.

Richard is survived by his sweetheart of forty- six years, Cindy McIntyre of Ashville, N.Y.; six daughters: Patricia Walters of Tidioute, PA, Susan (Ray) Cansdale of Silver Springs, FL, Janet Wolcott of Dunkirk, N.Y., Gloria (Greg) McCoy of Charlotte, N.C., Josephine (Brad) Ludwick of Metamora, MI, Joanne Wells of Jamestown, N.Y.,; sixteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he’s preceded in death by two sons: Jack R. Wells and Steven M. Wells; two brothers: Willis Wells and Homer Wells; three sisters: Lottie Mettler, Eva Slater and Clara McIntyre. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Friends and family may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, NY on Sunday, March 12th from 2:00PM – 4:00 PM. A service will be held there at 4:00 PM. Rev.
