William Christopher’s Obituary TEMPLE HILLS, MD – SMSgt William Christopher Dunlap Sr., USAF, (Ret) passed away of natural causes at his home in Temple Hills, MD on Jan 7th 2019. He was the son of Justine Newsome Nall of Union, WV and (late) William Homer Dunlap. Chris was born in Union, WV and attended Roanoke city schools in Roanoke, VA.
While there he excelled at tennis and was a member of the tennis team at William Fleming High School. Upon his graduation, he chose to follow his childhood dream and go into law enforcement. He enlisted in the USAF to follow that dream!
He became a member of the Security Forces where he had a distinguished and highly decorated career. While serving, he provided security for Air Force One for 3 of our presidents; provided security and traveled to over 60 countries; and oversaw the security forces in Japan. After retiring from active duty, he chose to remain in the security field as a civilian.
He served in Iraq, Romania, and other foreign areas. Also, he served stateside for the DOJ. His final position was with our government as a Special Agent for background investigations.
Throughout his life Chris never met a stranger. He dedicated his life to providing financial and spiritual support to his extended family and friends at the expense of spending personal time with his own family. He offered his support and never asked for anything in return.
The true definition of a Christian ! Chris (aka D, Devastator, Devastatin’ D, Grillmaster, Rap Master) had time for a few hobbies……. tennis, racquetball, Virginia Tech sports, his prolific music collection (over a million), and most of all for BBQ grilling.
Practically every weekend, no matter whether he was here or abroad, he was grilling for all who could come! He was preceded in death by his father, William H. ‘Billy’ Dunlap; a brother, Stephen Craig Dunlap; grandparents, William & Maude Dunlap and Ruth & Russell Newsome; and his ‘other’ mother, Virginia “Ginny” Newsome. He is survived by his mother, Justine Newsome Nall; wife, Estrellita ‘Isis’ Dunlap; ex-wife, Vanda Dunlap; son, William Christopher Dunlap Jr.; daughters, Desiree Dunlap & Shamicka Burnside-Dunlap; step-daughter, Leslie Pichay-Soriano; sister, Tina “Sissy” Dunlap; brothers, Philip F. (Reginia) Dunlap, Gerald P. “Mimms” Robertson, Mark Robertson & Darrell Robertson; grandchildren, Jaylen and Laniiyah; aunts, Joan Newsome Hutto & Shirley Newsome (Floyd) Hobson; uncles, Wilbert Russell Newsome Jr. & Philip Wayne Newsome; nieces and nephews, Lillie, Taray, Philisha, Chris, Alexis, P.J., & Chasity; and a host of family and friends throughout the world.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Additionally, a memorial service will be held from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Friday, January 25, 2019, at the Travis Air Force Base in CA.
