William Eldridge Young (Pete), age 90, passed away on Sunday, October 07, 2018 at his residence in Pelham, NC. He was born on August 28, 1928 to the late Sammy T. Young and Rosa Bell Hammock Young. Pete served his country by joining the Army where he served in the Korean War, and later served in the National Guard where he retired, as First Sergeant.

He was also a home builder. Pete owned and operated P & A Construction. Pete’s past times consisted of fishing at Nags Head and Topsail Beach.

Pete was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle. Pete is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy Grant Young, of the residence; sons, Michael E. Young, of Tucson, AZ and Audie R. Young, of the residence; granddaughter, Courtney Hernandez and husband, Abraham; great-grandchildren, Mia, Liam, and Elijah Hernandez; and sisters, Becky Hale, Ruth Chilton, Barbara Ellenburg, and Kathey Abernathy. In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by brothers, Dallas, Garland, Ronnie, and David Young; and sister, Margaret Y. Lewis.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Vermillion and Rev. Danny Campbell officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 2797 Red Marshall Rd.

, Pelham, NC. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the American Legion Post 1097. Swicegood Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Young family.
