Obituary for Frances Toler Goggin Frances Toler Goggin, 91, of 6389 Whispering Pines Rd. , Cascade, VA, died on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at her residence, after a decline in health for the past year. Mrs. Goggin was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, on November 7, 1927, a daughter of the late George Cardwell Toler and the late Mary Davis Toler.
She lived most of her life in the Brosville and Stoney Mill areas. She had previously lived in Norfolk, VA for sixteen years. She was retired from Dan River Mills where she worked as a spinner for twenty-six years.
She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. In her spare time, she loved reading her Bible, writing, quilting, crocheting, drawing, and spending time with her family. She was married to James M. Goggin, who died on April 2, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancey Newcomb, of Danville, VA, and Dorothy Tawney Malpass (Daniel), of Kelly, NC; three sons, James W. Goggin, of Fort Mills, SC, Pastor George W. Goggin (Brenda), of Winston Salem, NC, and John E. Goggin (Tammy), of Semora, NC; three sisters, Ola T. Motley, Ruth T. Turner, and Edna T. Turner; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; and ten step great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a step daughter, Jewel G. Mann; a grandson; a granddaughter; and a step granddaughter. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend J.B. Baldridge and Pastor George Goggin officiating.
Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at other times will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Brosville Fire Department, 11912 Martinsville Hwy.
