Obituary for William J. Sullivan Sullivan, William J. of Saginaw, Michigan, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was 89 years old. William Joseph Sullivan was born on October 10, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of the late William F. and Helen (Kostrzewa) Sullivan.
He attended school at St. Mary Cathedral, all twelve years, and graduated in 1947. He then worked as a teen at the family restaurant until joining the Army in 1948, serving three years with the Army Engineers. Bill met and married Phyllis Maksimowicz in 1953 and they began their 64 years together; she survives him.
Involved in different Food Service Operations around the Saginaw Area – the first one being on the Dixie Highway in Bridgeport where they enjoyed the people of that pleasant village for ten years. Bill also was an associate with his three brothers – Richard, James, and Patrick and his son, Timothy – on various business ventures. Bill & Phyllis were blest with four children, whom survive him: William A. Sullivan of Saginaw, Timothy (Cindy) Sullivan of Flushing, Brian Sullivan of Lansing, and Bridget (Todd) Tatalias of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren: Scott (Kaitlyn) Sullivan, Maureen Sullivan, Jennifer (Michael) Nash, Christopher (Sarah) Sullivan, Nicholas Sullivan, Paige Tatalias, William S. Tatalias, Amy (Anthony) Mienkwic, and Danielle (Dan) Schlosser; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sister: James (Joan) Sullivan, Patrick (Hanny) Sullivan, Suzanne Sevo, and Maureen (Patrick) Brady; and sister-in-law, Tomi Sullivan; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Sullivan. The family wishes to send a very special thank you to the Saginaw and Ann Arbor Veteran’s Hospitals, Dr. Ramthan, Dr. Bartnick, and their staff, for greatly exceeding their expectations and providing superior care and services. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave.

Thomas J. McNamara will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery and military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and the American Legion Post #468, St. Charles.
VISITATION: Family and friends are invited to gather at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family and friends will again gather for visitation at the church on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
