MORRIS: William O. Murphy passed away on April 6, 2018 at the home of his son Dennis. He was born on December 25, 1930 in Cooperstown to Owen Murphy and Florence Mowers. He was the youngest of six children.

He graduated from Cooperstown Central School in 1950. Bill married Nancy Jane Murphy on August 22, 1954 in Gilbertsville at Nancy’s family farm. They moved to Morris in 1956 and brought the farm on the hill where he lived out his days and where they raised their 5 children.

Bill… Read More » served his country for 35 years as a member of 204th Combat Engineering Battalion stationed out of Oneonta. He retired as supervisor of the NY State Armory in Oneonta. Bill worked several other part time jobs over the years as well; including the A & P as a meat cutter.

He was a boy scout in his youth and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his 5 children and spouses, William and Barbara Murphy, Jack and Diane Murphy, Dennis Murphy, Roger and Marilyn Murphy, and Patricia (Patti) and Ray Howland. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeased by his parents, siblings, wife Nancy and an infant son Larry. Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and a funeral will be on Friday, April 13th at 11:00 A.M. at the Johnston Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Hillington Cemetery, Morris with military honors.

Donations can be made in Bill’s memory to the Morris Emergency Squad or the Morris Fire Department. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris. Online expressions of sympathy may be made by visiting www.
