Aileen J. Machus, 90, of Breitung Township, formerly of Aurora, WI, died Monday, February 11, 2019 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 8, 1928 in Kingsford, daughter of the late Anton and Frances (Valentine) Johns. Aileen was a lifelong resident of the area and attended local schools.
She married David Machus on October 20, 1951 at American Martyrs Church. He preceded her in death August 3, 2005. She and her husband Dave owned and operated Central Supermarket in Kingsford before passing it on to their children.
She was a member of American Martyrs and sang in the choir. She was a member the Golden K and sang at the local nursing homes. She also was a member of the YMCA, formerly the Community Center, and did water aerobics for 40 years.
Aileen enjoyed taking care of her kids and grandkids. She also enjoyed their horses when she and Dave lived in Aurora. She is survived by her children, David (Gail) Machus of Breitung Twp.
, James (Lori) Machus of Kingsford, Linda (Terry) Alquist of Breitung Twp. , John Machus of Kingsford, Teresa (Dean) Wickman of Rockton, IL and Kristine Johnson of Breitung Twp. ; one brother, Alvin (Carol) Johns of Negaunee; two sisters, Dorothy Kempka of Mukwonago, WI, and Carolyn (Leo) Pilon of Albuquerque, NM; nine grandchildren, Russell Dumais, Bradley (Halle) Machus, Kimberly Machus, Mark Machus, Jordan (Julia) Wickman, Jade Wickman (Josh Gauthier), Paul Johnson (Maggie Zimmerman), Matthew Johnson, and Megan Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Luke Machus, Kaden Dumais, Archer Machus, and Benjamin Machus.
Aileen was so looking forward to her first great granddaughter due in April. Aileen was preceded in death by her husband, David, in 2005; three brothers, Walter Johns, Wilfred Johns, and infant brother, William “Billie” Johns; one sister, Marian Oglesby; daughter-in-law, Billie Jo Hooper, and her niece and great-niece, Joanne Johns and infant daughter, Maggie. Friends may call from 9-10:30 am Thursday at the Kingsford Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Burial will be in the Dickinson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Martyr’s Church.
