Floyd G. VanOss, 95, of Channing passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls. He was born March 21, 1923 in Crystal Falls, MI, son of the late Harold and Loretta (Frizzel) VanOss. Floyd graduated from Channing High School in 1941 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He was employed as a machinist with the Milwaukee Road for 40 years, retiring in 1983. Floyd was a member of the Milwaukee Road Mechanical Foreman’s Association, the International Association of Machinists, the Sagola Sportsmen Club, the Moose Country Snowmobile Club (life member) and Grace Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at Camp Six-Pack.

He is survived by his three daughters, Joanne Dennis of Iron Mountain, MI, Janet (Roger) Roell of Channing, MI and Jean (Angelo) Bortolini of Kewaunee, WI; a daughter-in-law, Judy Van Oss; grandchildren, David (Patricia) Process, Larry (Judy) Process, Mickey (Chris) Tremel, Mike (Lynn) Roell, Steve (Mary Jane) Roell, Todd (Jenny) Roell, Lisa (Jeff) Harry, Paul (Kelly) Van Oss, Christopher (Barb) Van Oss, Angela (Mike) Hager and Scott (Teresa) Bortolini; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (McGregor), his son, Gary VanOss, a daughter-in-law, Barb VanOss, a granddaughter, Jennifer VanOss, a grandson, James Process, two brothers, Orville Van Oss and Wray Van Oss and a sister, Marion Wilson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 10 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.

A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the church. Pastor Ryan Flunker will officiate. Burial will be in the Channing Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory. Floyd’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Floyd G. VanOss online at www.
