Robert L. Welker, 74, of Iron Mountain passed away on February 8, 2019 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. He was born June 26, 1944 in Duluth, MN, son of the late Robert and Emily (Porta) Welker. Bob attended Iron Mountain High School and the St. Thomas Military Academy in St. Paul, MN.

He served as a medic in the Air Force for four years, one year in Korea. He worked for 27 years as an Iron Mountain firefighter prior to retiring in 1994. He also worked as a bartender at Pine Grove Country Club.

He loved spending time with his family, playing golf, fishing, hunting and being at his camp, The Big “W”. Bob shot dozens of bucks in his many years of hunting. His last deer, a “Welker 3-pointer”, was shot on November 29th of this past year.

Bob really enjoyed food, was a great cook and loved feeding a crowd. Bob loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had fun playing cards with his buddies at Harry’s camp and could constantly be heard in the room, no matter what table he was playing at.

If he wasn’t busting you about something, well then, he didn’t like you. He is survived by his fiancée, Gail Dixon, of Kingsford, MI; three children, Robert (Shelly) Welker of Marquette, MI, Tracy (Gary) Morgan of Green Bay, WI, Shari (Jeff) Mueller of Mukwonago, WI; four grandchildren, Colin and Aurora Welker, Ashley and Alex Mueller; two brothers, Donald (Linda) Welker of Becker, MN, and Jon Welker of Savage, MN; his step mother, Melba Daley of Edina, MN; and his dog, Maggie Mae. Friends may call from 8:30 am until 10:30 am Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday at the American Martyr’s Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
