EDWARDSBURG – Alfred “Freddie” A. Balbo, Jr., 63, formerly of South Bend, Indiana and residing in Edwardsburg, Michigan passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Golden Living Center, Mishawaka, Indiana. Freddie was born on September 26, 1954 in South Bend to the late Alfred A. Balbo, Sr. and Margie (Alkire) Balbo, and has lived most of his life in this area, graduating from Mishawaka High School. Freddie was a truck driver for Ryder Truck Company, Elkhart for many years.

He was well known and loved in this area by many local musicians. He was a member of “Balbo Brothers” and “Zibby Tebo” and wrote many songs on his “Ashes and Tears” Album. His song, “Breathe In, Breathe Out” was a top hit on WAOR local radio station for many weeks.

On March 10, 2012 Freddie was united in marriage to Catherine (Davis) Balbo, who has preceded him in death on January 23, 2013. Freddie is survived by two step-children, Tracy and Jason; brothers, Frank Balbo of Edwardsburg, MI and Thomas “Tommy” (Barbara) Balbo of Bradenton, FL; and nieces, Melanie Ziegert, Melissa Balbo, Mary Balbo, and Brooke Frame. A service “Celebrating the Life” of Freddie will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave.

, South Bend, IN 46615 with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 4:00 PM till 8:00 PM at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
