Amedeo’s Obituary AMEDEO N. APICELLI age 93 of Groton passed away on Sunday evening, January 27, 2019 at Bayview Healthcare in Waterford. He was born in Groton on May 3, 1925 the son of Frank and Carmela Ritorto Apicelli. He served in the Army’s 94th infantry division during World War II serving in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

After the war he worked as a motor vehicle operator at the Submarine Base in Groton for 34 years. Amedeo is survived by a brother, Val Apicelli of Groton, his sisters, Mary Shelley of Groton and Jeanette Waller of Charleston, SC. He was predeceased by his brother, James P. Apicelli who was killed in WWII and his sister, Florence Wixom.

A funeral service with Military Honors, will be held on Friday at 11 o’clock at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Interment in ST Mary Cemetery will be private. There are no visiting hours.
