Anna Frances (Vowels) (Turpen) Stevens, 97, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Bethel Manor. Anna was born in Uniontown, Kentucky on October 28, 1920 to the late Frank and Betty (Liggett) Vowels. She was a 1942 graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing.

With a life-long passion of caring for others, Anna was a nurse at Gibson County Hospital in Princeton, Good Samaritan Hospital, Deaconess, St. Mary’s and at the State Hospital. Anna is survived by her daughters, Ruth Bradburn (Ray) of Evansville, IN and Margaret Gries (Don) of Evansville, IN; son, Ralph Turpen (Debbie) of Newburgh, IN; sisters, Imogene (Jeane) Moore of FL and Gayle Nelson of Corydon, KY; and grandchildren, Kent Scheller and Kelly Scheller of Haubstadt, Scott Scheller of Ft.

Branch, Chris Scheller of Cynthiana, Todd Scheller of Australia, Mark Turpen, Grant Gries and Matt Gries of Indianapolis, Jullie Allen, Stacey Wahl, Missy Daugherty, Sarah Blankenberger and Rachael Bacon of Evansville; and many great-grandchildren. Anna was preceded in death by her first husband, Stephen Edward Turpen in 1952 and by her second husband, Charles W. Stevens in 2003; daughters, Rita Scheller and Rebecca Sue Turpen; parents; sisters, Marie Bullock, Susan Alvey; and brothers, Samuel Vowels, Bernard Vowels, Earl (Bosse) Vowels and Paul Vowels. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 918 W. Mill Rd.

, Evansville, IN 47710 with Fr. Jason Gries celebrating. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 16, 2018 with a Rosary Service following at 6:00 PM at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:30 AM until service time on Monday at the church.
