OBITUARY Lewis R. Clark March 2, 1935 – September 5, 2018 Lewis “Ray Clark, 83 passed away September 5, 2018. He was born March 2, 1935 in Trigg County, Kentucky to Daniel and Bertha (Boren) Clark. He was a past member of Harwood Baptist Church and St. James West United Methodist Church where he enjoyed teaching and adult Sunday school class for a time.

He had been a Master Mason, a member of Lessing Lodge 464. Lewis was a 1954 Reitz High School graduate. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Oakland City College as well as a Master’s Degree in education at Indiana University.

Mr. Clark began his teaching career in Fairfield Indiana and retired from the EVSC in 1991 after teaching at Washington School and West Terrace Elementary, respectively. He coached and sponsored various sports and activities throughout his teaching career. He was known for exchanging “corny” jokes with his students.

Being a teacher was truly his calling. Lewis enjoyed watching most sports and played baseball throughout high school and after. He pitched several “no-hitters” when he was paid to play in a local league, even being scouted by the Detroit Tigers professional baseball team in the late 1950’s.

He enjoyed family gatherings, was gifted with an easygoing spirit and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone about anything and knew how to be cordial and kind even if he sharply disagreed. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen McCoy, Vonneda White and Dorothy McBride, and infant brother Roy Clark. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife of 64 years, Frances (Raleigh).

Sons; Mark Clark (Rose), Duane Clark (Mary), Roger Clark (Kathleen), daughter, Kimberly McCool (George) Grandchildren; Cody Clark, Kyler McCool (Zenifer), Carson McCool, Harmonie McCool, Joely McCool, Liberty McCool, Millicent McCool, Great Granddaughters; Margot Clark, Carmen McCool and many nieces and nephews, including Don Compton, with whom he was raised like a brother. A Funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Alexander West Chapel, with entombment to follow at Alexander memorial Park. Friends may visit 10 AM until service time at the funeral home.
