Obituary for Mr. Anthony J. “Tony” Crea Mr. Anthony J. “Tony” Crea, Sr., of Pittsfield, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 24, 2018 at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Calabria, Italy on January 24, 1923 the son of Frank and Rose Allessi Crea. At the age of 6 he was one of the many to immigrate to the United States through Ellis Island.
Mr. Crea was a US Army WWII veteran. He enlisted in the Army during his senior year of high school. He served in Africa and Italy before returning home in 1946.
After his discharge he returned to Pittsfield High School to earn his high school diploma. Tony owned and operated the former Franks Berkshire Marine, which was started by his father, and later, Tony’s Berkshire Boats. Tony’s family worked in the business as well, including his wife Brenda, his son AJ, and daughter Rosie.
He was one of the original members of the Rainbow Club, a past president of the Pittsfield Exchange Club and a current member of the ITAM Lodge. Tony loved spending time with family, boating, and perfecting his homemade wine. Every year on July 4th he would put on an amazing display of fire works for fellow boaters and neighbors on Pontoosuc lake.
Tony is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Justine Brenda Noble, whom he married on December 8, 1962 at St Charles Church. He is also survive by his children, David Crea and his former wife Elizabeth Crea , Rosemarie Phelps and her husband Michael and AJ Crea Jr and his wife Diana. He leaves his grandchildren Kevin and his wife Courtney, Megan and her husband Ben, Dylan, Anthony, Nick and his wife Raquel, Nathaniel and his wife Erica, Andy and his wife Libby, Amanda, and Alexander.
Tony was also blessed with six great grandchildren: Harper, Clayton, Cooper, Mackenzie, Grayson, and Camden. Tony is also survived by his sister, Frances Calautti. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mr. Anthony J. “Tony” Crea, Sr., will be Monday, October 29, 2018 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by Rev.
A. Peter Gregory, Pastor Emeritus. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In keeping with Tony’s wishes there will be no calling hours.
