Obituary for Dr. Eugene M. Berkman Dr. Eugene M. Berkman laid to rest on October 20, 2018. He is survived by his children Andrea Strumpf and her husband Matthew, Dr. Deborah Gordon and her husband Dr. Daniel Rosenberg, and his grandchildren Eric and Jeffrey Rosenberg. He is also survived by his sister Linda Berkman and extended family.

He is also remembered by his long time friend Diana Fontana. Dr. Berkman served his country as a Lieutenant in the Navy. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Harvard and Doctorate of Medicine from Tufts University, and completed his medical training at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY and the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

He received many awards for his work in Hematology, and was most proud of founding the Tufts Medical Center Blood Bank and Stem-Cell Laboratory where he dedicated his career from 1971-2003. He was a physician, teacher, mentor, blood bank director, and Professor of Medicine. Many of his former trainees have achieved positions of great impact globally.

Dr. Berkman authored nearly 100 publications and edited three books. Funeral arrangements will be private. A memorial gathering in his memory will be held at a later date.
