Obituary for Mr. Henry J. Colvin Henry Joseph Colvin, 66, of Pittsfield passed away peacefully at his home on November 27, 2018 following a brief but courageous battle with end stage cancer. Henry’s infectious smile and positivity lasted until the end. His legacy is impossible to put into words, but we will try.

Henry was born on May 23, 1952 in Pittsfield, where he was raised and educated. He was a graduate of California College of Respiratory Therapy through Berkshire Community College. Beginning as an orderly and ending as a beloved member of the respiratory care team, he was employed at Berkshire Medical Center for 37 years.

Known for his bright smile, friendly and funny demeanor and compassionate bedside manner, his presence will be missed by his colleagues and patients. Co-workers and former patients all spoke fondly of Henry and his caring ways extended far beyond the walls of BMC. To say Henry loved the outdoors is an understatement.

He was a hunter, fisherman, camper, knife-maker, golfer and motorcyclist. He loved to travel to new places on his Harley and explored America on many cross-country trips with his wife Tara and cherished friends. He was a lifelong member of local sportsman clubs.

Hunting was an especially valued discipline that he loved to share with his sons. This time of year he would spend almost every weekend with them out in the woods, fostering a lifelong bond and love for the sport. He always let his sons take the first shot.

Family was most important to Henry. He was one of eight children to Ralph and Evelyn (Garrity) Colvin of Pittsfield. He was pre-deceased by his brothers David, Frances, Gerald and Peter and remained extremely close to his surviving sisters Linda Connors, Mary Colvin-Barone and Nancy Colvin and his many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Whether watching the Boston Bruins, sharing a joke or making a simple phone call, Henry truly valued his family and time spent with them. He is survived by his wife Tara (McKay) Colvin, his friend and former wife Karen Abear and their four children: Tanner Colvin, Garrett and his wife Molly (Murphy) Colvin, Jillian Colvin and her fiancé David Galvagni and Darran Colvin. Henry’s children were his pride and joy.
