Haaland, 93, Rosholt, SD, formerly of Veblen, SD, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the Countryside Inn Assisted Living in Rosholt. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Veblen with Pastor Karie Geyer officiating.

Music will be provided by organist Karen Hornseth and the Ole Olson Trio. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery, rural Veblen. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and residents of the Countryside Inn.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Haaland, Neal Haaland, Wayne Haaland, Curtis Haaland, Richard Fredrickson, and Jerry Nelson. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church and will continue Thursday morning one hour prior to the service. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt is in charge of the arrangements.

Arlene Beatrice was born April 22, 1925, to Christ and Clara (Golie) Christopherson in Marshall County, SD. She attended Kidder High School in Kidder, SD, graduating in 1943 as salutatorian of her class. Following graduation, Arlene worked in Chicago and Minneapolis.

On December 31, 1945, Arlene married Harold Haaland at the church parsonage in Veblen. After their marriage, they resided on the Haaland homestead near Veblen where they farmed and raised cattle. In 1979 they moved into Veblen, and Arlene worked in the kitchen at the school for nine years.

Harold and Arlene bought a small farm near the homestead where they lived until November of 2010 when they moved to Rosholt. Harold passed away April 19, 2012, and Arlene made her home in Countryside Inn in Rosholt. Arlene was the last member of the Norwegian choir, the Norsk Singers.

She enjoyed playing cards, making donuts, and dancing. Survivors include her five children, Dennis (Betty) Haaland of Denver, CO, Myrna (Jack) Huber of Deerwood, MN, Dayle (Ruth) Haaland of Veblen, Darrell (Sharon) Haaland of Sisseton, SD, and Marcine (Mark) Evan of Andover, MN; seven grandchildren, Cheri (Mike) Maestas, Nathan (Jeanie) Haaland, Randy (Roberta) Haaland, Eric (Anne) Haaland, Katie (Jesse) Gauthier, Marc (Sara) Evan, and Emily Evan; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; grandson, Aaron Haaland; daughter-in-law, Sue Haaland; four sisters; and one brother.
