Arthur Edward “Art” Shawley, 81, of Apollo, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2018 at his home in Kiskiminetas Township. He was born in Export, PA on March 12, 1937, son of the late Myrl D. Shawley & Velma Kemerer Cline. Art served in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Float Bridge Division and was stationed in Ft.

Benning, Georgia from 1960-1962. He and his late father were owners of S & A Coal Company and Shawley Trucking, and was a partner in A.R.M. Coal Company. Prior… Read More » to retirement, he also worked for United Rentals, Stivason Trucking, and W.L. Roenigk Transportation.

Art’s lifelong passion was driving truck and running heavy equipment, as well as watching Pittsburgh sports with his family, and working in his yard. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, as he always thought of others first, and never of himself. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold (Louise) Shawley, Slickville, PA, and his stepmother, Eleanor Ellwood Shawley.

Art is survived by his loving spouse of 61 years, Betty I. (Kepple) Shawley; daughters, Brenda Shawley (Terry) Wright of Bradenton, FL & Upper St. Clair, PA, Michelle Shawley of Cary, NC, Tammy (Brandon Lowder) Shawley of Redondo Beach, CA; grandchildren, Lauren Mahaney, Danielle Phillippi, Ben Fingers, Madison Fingers, Harrison Faecher, Preston Faecher; great-grandchildren, Amara & Bodhi; sister, Peggy (Richard) Perfetta of Export, PA; niece, Debby (Marty) Zundel; and his nephews, Rick (Denise) Perfetta, and Patrick (Heather) Perfetta. Friends will be received in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave. , Apollo, on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. until the Celebration Of Life Tribute Service at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Please join the family as they honor Art’s life. Following the services, military honors will be accorded by the Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard. Private interment in Spring Church Lutheran Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.
