Bradford – Audrey E. DeVargas, 71, of Bradford, formerly a life-long resident of Benicia, CA, passed away at 10:33 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Audrey was born on August 18, 1946 in Granite City, IL, the daughter of Earl Audrey and Nadine P. (Bashore) Gardner. She married Fernando DeVargas in October 24, 1964; he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Maria (Tom Leh) DeVargas; six grandchildren, Kathleen, Emily, Mary, Arra,… Read More » Caleb, and Fernando; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Fernando E. DeVargas. Audrey was a supporter of all of her family’s activities and interests including being the organizer of a soccer league Fernando started in California.

She raised her two children while taking care of her parents within her home. She also looked after three amazing boys, Jeremy, Rian and Cory. Audrey and Fernando moved back to Illinois in the 2003 to be closer to their family, and to spend more time with their grandchildren.

She often volunteered at the animal shelter, but then started Parrot Adventure and raised numerous parrots for years, along with miniature horses and dogs. Her memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Toulon. Veronica Haskell, Certified Funeral Celebrant, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bradford Rescue Squad.
