Obituary for Augustine F. “Gus” D’Angelo Hampton Beach – Augustine F. “Gus” D’Angelo, 88, of Hampton Falls, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his home with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Gus was the longtime restaurateur along with his wife Linda of the former Mama Leone’s Restaurant that was a fixture of Italian cuisine at Hampton Beach until it closed last year after 42 years. “Cook good food, give plenty and charge a fair price.

That was our legacy” said Gus before he retired. It had an ambiance of America from years gone by. It was one of a kind.

Some local restaurateurs got their start at Mama Leone’s as Gus was the mentor to many who worked for him. He gave many employees their first chance and then their children’s first chance. Gus was born in Lawrence, MA August 30, 1929 a son of the late Frank and Rose (Lovecchio) D’Angelo.

Raised in Lawrence his mother regularly cooked traditional Italian meals and her chicken and veal recipes were among the many dishes that became staples of Mama Lenoe’s. He opened the restaurant with his wife in 1975 and operated it until it closed in 2017. The recipes came straight from his mother, for whom he named the restaurant.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Army and later became the businessman through and through. He worked hard and worried about his business constantly. He loved traveling with Linda to many destinations when they had their winters off.

He shared 42 years of marriage with his wife Linda M. (McCann) D’Angelo who came from an Irish family but fully embraced Italian culture. In addition to his wife, he leaves three children, Tara Evans of Hampton Falls, Bonnie Rizzi of Toms River, NJ, Raymond “Rick” D’Angelo and his wife Betty of Ward, Ark. , his brother, John D’Angelo and his wife Christine of Methuen, MA, five grandchildren, Taylor, Teagan, Ty, Torin Evans, Adam Gugino, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn Angley. Visiting hours will be from 4-6:30 PM Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A prayer service will immediately follow at 6:30 PM in the funeral home.
