Barbara’s Obituary Barbara (Granny Barbara) Catherine Johnston, 77, passed away suddenly at Integris Grove Hospital ER, Monday, March 18, 2019 in Grove, OK. She was born on December 30, 1941 in Hutchinson, KS to her parents, William Griffith and Eva Gertrude King-Griffith. Barbara graduated from Pleasanton High School, Class of 1959.

She worked in the Medical Field most of her life as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was a homemaker taking care of her family. Barbara loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and animals. She was a very devout christian lady that knew her Bible well, Barbara lived her life according to the scriptures.

She enjoyed being a part of teaching children. After her retirement she continued to share her love of teaching children being in the Granny Program reading to the second grade. She was known to the second grade Lower Jay Elementary School Children as Granny Barbara.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, William and Eva Griffith; 1st husband Charles William Bishop, 2nd husband, Russell Lee Nokes; 6 siblings; great-grandson, Kendall Bishop and great-granddaughter, Jade Taylor. She is survived by her 4 children, Cathy Bishop of Tulsa, OK, Sherry Taylor and husband Charlie of Rogers, AR, Patty Bergen and husband Matthew of Granby, MO, Stephen Nokes and Fiance’ Mia of Joplin, MO; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Bloom and husband Dean of Medicine Lodge, KS, 3 cats; 1 dog; 1 Cockatiel Bird; Best Friend, Linda Boyle; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Barbara’s family visitation to greet friends will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm at Lawson’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK 74346.

Barbara’s Celebration Of Life Funeral Service will be held on Friday, 2:00pm, March 22, 2019 at Lawson’s Funeral Homes Chapel, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK. Burial will be at Old Eucha Cemetery, Eucha, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Granny Barbara Lower Elementary Reading Program, Lower Elementary Jay School District.

Arrangements are entrusted to Lawson’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK 74346 with Shaunda J. Lawson, 3rd Generation Owner/Funeral Director and Staff.
