Barbara Elaine Carano January 26, 1949 – March 21, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Barbara Elaine Carano, 70, of McAlester, died Thursday, March 21, at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa. The family will welcome friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of McAlester with Dr. Rusty McMullen officiating. Burial will follow at Mt.

Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Walter Suttle, Albert Suttle, Robert Phelps, III, Tommy Friend, Donald Barnes and Mikey Joe Maisano. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Pruitt, Sonny Anderson, George Finamore, Thomas Bevans, Jr., and Denton Causey.

Barbara Carano was born on January 26, 1949 in McAlester to Thomas Noel, Sr. and Gladys Aline (Mendenhall) Bevans. Her childhood was spent in a few different towns, but McAlester, where she has lived since 1971, was always “home”. She and John Paul Carano were married in McAlester on September 22, 1973.

Barbara worked at Komar as a seamstress, for 20 years. She loved sewing, baking and crafts, and was an expert in designing doggy clothes. She had also been an active school volunteer, serving as home room mother and PTA secretary.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she was a member of WMU and was a kitchen worker for Wednesday Night Suppers at the church. Barbara is survived by her husband, John Paul Carano, a son and daughter-in-law, Alan Paul and Sharon Carano of Richland Hills, TX and their son, Rocco; a brother, Thomas Noel Bevans, Jr. and wife Loretta of Quinton; 4 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Connie and Walter Suttle, Kathy Phelps, Beth Murano, and Betty Hallman; a sister-in-law, Mary Frances Griffith and husband Richard, a special niece, Gina Griffith of Maryland, and several other nieces and nephews; and her “adopted mom”, Mary Spicer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, J. B. and Ruth Mendenhall, and a brother, Leonard Lee Hood.
