Billy Dean Kirk June 26, 1931 – March 19, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Billy Dean Kirk, 87, of McAlester, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at his home. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester.

Burial will follow at Indianola Cemetery. Billy Dean was born on June 26, 1931 in Indianola to Luke and Daisy (Harrelson) Kirk. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1951.

Billy married Helen Ruth Crandell on July 10, 1953 in McAlester. Billy served many years as a Free Will Baptist minister. He pastored Free Will Baptist Churches in Pittsburg, Hoyt, and Canadian Shores.

Bill was a youth minister at the Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church, and the Senior Pastor at the First Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester where he was a member. Bill served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956, stationed in San Diego, California at the Miramar Naval Air Station during the Korean War. He was deployed three times to the far East.

He served in Korea, Japan, China, and the Philippines aboard the aircraft carrier ships USS Valley Forge, USS Phillipine Seas, and USS Kearsarge. He was an aviation ordianceman, achieving the rank of 3rd class, and was honorably discharged in 1956. Following his years in the service, he was employed at Safeway; and in 1967, he went to work for North American Rockwell which later became Boeing Aircraft, where he retired in 1991.

Since his retirement he has been busy preaching, as well as visiting hospitals, nursing homes, and shut-ins. Billy was a member of the American Legion Post #79, having served as a Chaplin and a member of the honor guard. He enjoyed playing dominoes, especially moon, which he did every week.

He enjoyed gardening, loved being with his family, especially his great-grandchildren. Billy lived all his life in the McAlester area except his military years. Billy was preceded in death by his son: Faron Dean Kirk, parents: Luke and Daisy Kirk.

and his sister: Marie Stewart. He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Helen; daughters and spouses: Vanessa and Shawn Cummings, Denise and Gaylon Brannon, all of McAlester; grandsons: Clint Brannon of McAlester and Brody Brannon of Stuart; granddaughter: Bailey Bishop of Piedmont, great-grandchildren: Gunner, Draper, Lincoln. and Oakli Brannon.

Also aunt: Evelena Herrin and spouse, Dean of Keller, Texas, nieces: Mariana and Freda Rhodes, both of Downey, California; sisters-in-law: Louise Cooter, Sue Buff, and Sue Crandell; special friends: Patty Peters Henderson and Hayden Young; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
