Barbara M. Sloan July 9, 1934 – December 28, 2018 Barbara (McLain) Sloan of Carteret, went to be with the Lord after a short illness on Thursday, December 28, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home. Barbara, who was born in Jersey City, resided in Carteret most of her life.

She was employed by Merck & Co. Inc. for 25 years before her retirement. Barbara was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carteret where she served as a session member and other committees. She was also a member of the Carteret Day Seniors.

She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, computer games, vacationing in Aruba with her family and loved going to the casinos. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. Barbara was a wonderful caring person, as well as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and Nana.

She will be dearly missed but will remain in our hearts forever. Born: July 9, 1934 Death: December 28, 2018 Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband Matthew Sloan, her parents Harry and Helen McLain, and her sister Marjorie Kiselyk. She is survived by her children; Donna Valler and her husband Joseph of South Brunswick, Thomas Sloan and his husband Ronald Paladino, of Naples, Florida and Scott Sloan and his wife, Donna of Colonia, and her six grandchildren, Edward and Lindsay Wawrzynski, Amber, Andrew and Robert Sloan and Jaclyn Valler.

She is also survived by her sister, Janet Williams and husband Jim of Toms River, her brother Donald McLain and wife Gloria of Sewaren, brother-in-law Donald Kiselyk of Somerset and her sister-in-law Isabel Gasior and husband Moe of Carteret as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be begin at 10:30am on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from Chubenko Funeral Home, 625 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading, NJ, followed by an 11am funeral service at the First Presbyterian Church of Carteret, 83 Carteret Avenue. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 3pm to 7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate a donation to the First Presbyterian Church – Memorial Fund of Carteret or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
