Benjamin “Frank” Franklin March 17, 1938 – December 21, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences Benjamin Franklin, (affectionately known as “Frank”) transitioned on December 21, 2018 at the age of eighty. Frank was born on March 17, 1938 in Abbeville, South Carolina to the late Minnie Franklin Dandy and William H. Franklin. During his early childhood, Frank lived in Philadelphia but returned to Abbeville to continue his education.

In 1956, he joined the United States Army. After his service, he moved to New York City. Always a hard worker, Frank held many jobs, ultimately securing a position with the United States Postal Service where he was employed for over thirty years.

After retiring, Frank enjoyed fishing, traveling and visiting family and friends with his longtime companion of twenty-seven years, whom he married. Frank loved life; and was the life of any party! He loved music, dancing, good food, and trash talking!

He was an avid sports fan and could be found watching basketball and football simultaneously, or for hours at a time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Franklin Dandy and William H. Franklin. Frank is survived by and leaves to celebrate his life: his wife, Diane Matthews-Franklin; three sisters, Bernadette Dandy, Lisa Carter, and Eva Franklin; two brothers, Sabron Dandy and Gregory Franklin; two sons, Brian Franklin and Calvin Garnet; step children, Regina and Gerald Matthews; five grandchildren, Garrick Franklin, Briana Garnet, Angie Garnet, Cherish Garnet, and Calvin Garnet, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues.

Frank fought a hard-long battle with grit and bravery and with an extraordinary will to live. He will be missed, but not forgotten by all who knew him.
