Betty Rose Smith Thompkins, age 67 of Whiteville went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Angel House in Whiteville after battling cancer for 22 years. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Flynn Cemetery with Dr. Darrin Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 pm Sunday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.

She was the daughter of the late Adell Catherine Spivey Smith and Alford Smith. She was also preceded in death by two siblings, Grace Ward, Harrell Smith and Hilda Lowrance. She is survived by her husband, Jack Marshall Thompkins of the home; three children, Gerald Ward (Jeanna) of Alabama, Colen Ward of Whiteville and Melanie Hinson (Chris) of Whiteville; siblings, Jason Smith, Nancy Duncan and Deborah Hinson (Timmy); 4 grandchildren, Bradlee Ward, Christopher Hinson, Brandon Hinson and Ember Ward.
