Bob’s Obituary Robert Edward “Bob” Parson, Sr., 95, of Jesup, died Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Harborview Nursing Home of natural causes. The Barton County, Missouri native was a member of Jesup Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge #112, and Royal Arch Chapter #70. After graduating from Waynesville High School in Waynesville, North Carolina in April 1943, he joined the Army the following month.

The U.S. Army Veteran served in WWII (1943-1945) in the 19th Armored Infantry Battalion, 14th Armored Division, and was assigned to the Seventh Army. He fought battle in the South France Campaign and Germany Campaign and was awarded the E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal, Two Bronze Battle Stars, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantryman Badge.

On August 31, 1946, he eloped and married Jessie, the love of his life, in Clayton, Georgia. After moving to Jesup and starting work at Rayonier in 1954, he began his career with the startup of “A” Mill as a Bleach Plant First Helper. He held numerous positions in the Bleach Plant and retired as “A & B” Lead Operator after 34 years of service.

Bob enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling with Jessie. He also enjoyed being a part of Calvary Baptist’s walking group. In his later years, he was seen scooting around town in his fancy red golf cart.

He was also a member of the “Liars Club” now Misty’s Pharmacy. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Jessie Rose Reno Parson; parents, Oscar Clarence and Sophia Turpin Parson; sisters, Bonnie Sharp and Helen Smathers. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Eddy (Donna) Parson, Doug (Janice) Parson, and Phil (Peggy) Parson, all of Jesup; sister, Marie Burrell of Maggie Valley, North Carolina; grandchildren, Allison (Jimmy) Lynes, Erica Craven, Doug Parson, Jr., Christina and Kelly Hyers, and Cynthia Parson; great grandchildren, Emery and Grayson Hyers, Jules and Jeb Craven, Kendall, Harrison, and Corbin Lynes; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Rev. Pete Ullmann and Rev. Vann Dempsey officiating.

Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors. Active pallbearers will be Ed Exley, Kelly Hyers, Dr. Paul Scott, Curtis Hand, Dr. Dan Collipp, and Steve Kicklighter. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Liars Club, Calvary Baptist Walking Group, and members of the Jesup Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to service at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jesup Presbyterian Church, 297 South Brunswick Street, Jesup, GA 31546. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
