Obituary for Brian M. Suomala The family of Brian Suomala would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received an invitation on Monday, September 17, 2018, for an appointment, an offer you can’t deny, so he won’t be returning here! This new assignment comes with an immense sign-on bonus, a reunion with so many family and friends he has not seen in a long time.
His new purpose takes him to a magnificent place where he will be socializing, telling stories, jokes, doing crossword puzzles, sitting around laughing, and golfing until his heart’s content. Most significantly, he now rests with the Lord. He left complete instructions to celebrate his mission here, which has now been completed.
Brian was born May 28, 1943 in New York City, New York to Henry and Margaret (Powers) Suomala. They moved to Ann Arbor in 1951 and he has lived here ever since. He attended St. Thomas Schools, graduated High School in 1961.
He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1966 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He went on to work for and retire from the State of Michigan, Highway Division. Brian was an avid golfer!
He had an impressive five holes in one and even played a round of golf with Bob Hope. Brian was a member of many organizations. He was an active member at the Eagles, Elks, Ann Arbor’s “M” club and the Washtenaw County Law Enforcement Association.
Brian was a steward to people in need. He took elderly friends to appointments, church services, out to lunches or do whatever the need might be. He was always available to help out.
Brian was a highly devoted son. He cared deeply for his mother until the day she received her invitation. Brian loved to go up north to the cabin with his friends.
He enjoyed their camaraderie, foolishness and adventures. Brian recently fulfilled a bucket list trip to Ireland. He spent two weeks touring Ireland in June with his dear cousin and family.
He is predeceased by his father and mother, Henry Alfred & Margaret Irene Suomala; brother, Gregory Suomala; sister-in-law, Evelyn Suomala; and nephew, Vincent Tripi. He is survived by his brother, Jan (Janice) Suomala; sister-in-law, Barb Suomala; nieces, Katherine Dorie, Lisa Suomala (Pati Lawson) & Jennifer (Stephen) Lynn, and Nancy Tripi; Grand nieces and nephews, Nicole & Jacob Dorie, Zachary Lynn, Kaitlin (Brian) Fisher, Benjamin Tripi; and his dear cousin, Danny Donovan; as well as many extended family members and friends whom he considered family.
