Obituary for Burl Burton Merritt Burl Burton Merritt, age 86, of Laurel, passed away on May 29, 2018. He was born on October 23, 1931 in Mississippi. Prior to retirement, he worked as an electrician for Southland Oil Company.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Myrick and was a veteran of the U. S. Military. Preceding him in death were his parents, D. W. Merritt and Nancy Lee Boutwell Merritt; wife, Mary Merritt; and brother, Bruce Merritt. Survivors include two sons, Greg Merritt (Patsy) of Daphne, AL and Buddy Merritt (Susan) of the Myrick community; two daughters, Linda Smith (Martin) and LeAnn Berlin (Eric) all of the Myrick community; grandchildren, David Smith, Danny Smith, Andrea McSwain, Michael Merritt, Patti Merritt, Nicole Martin, Roddy Merritt, and Rick Merritt; seven great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Peggy Merritt.

Pallbearers will be David Smith, Danny Smith, Roddy Merritt, Rick Merritt, and Michael Merritt. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Richards and Joe Smith. Funeral services will be held at Memory Chapel on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. with interment following at Myrick Cemetery.
