Obituary for Charles “Chuck” W. Payne Charles “Chuck” W. Payne, 58, of Johnson City, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 8, 2018, after losing his battle with cancer. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he spent most of his childhood in the Philadelphia area, but lived the majority of his adult life in southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee as a cabinet maker and artisan. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald H. and Aletta M. Thompson Payne.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by an infant sister, Denise Pauline Payne, and his first wife, Frances Holmes Payne. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Those left to cherish Chuck’s memory include his loving wife, Christina Payne, his children: Catrina Detweiler and her husband Sam, Tiffany Gain, Charles “Chuck” Payne, Jr., Ashley Carpenter and her husband Richard, Amber Blankenship and her husband Jeremy, and Valerie Payne; sisters: Donna Boardwine and her husband Jamey, Robin Fisher and her late husband, Elmer; eighteen grandchildren, and the mother of five of his children, Susan Payne.

The family will greet friends to share memories on Thursday, September 13, 2018 in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm until a Celebration of Chuck’s Life beginning at 7:00 pm with Pastor J.C.
