Obituary for Cheryl Smillie Cheryl Lynn Smillie, 58, of Johnston City, passed away at 3:04 p.m., Thursday, March 22, 2018 at her residence. Cheryl was born June 11, 1959 in Fort Benning, Georgia to Alexander James and Mary Catherine (Donelson) Barclay. She married Jerry Dean Smillie on July 3, 1976 in Royalton.

Cheryl held a Bachelors of Ministry in Biblical Counseling from Global Grace Seminary. She was the founder and administrator of Community Christian Academy in Johnston City. She was also a counselor of Community of Care Ministries.

She recently served as minister of Christian Worship Center in West Frankfort. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband, Jerry, and boating with her family. She was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the piano and singing in church.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. Cheryl is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jerry Smillie of Johnston City; three daughters, Stephanie (Chris) Parton of Marion, Amy Smillie of Johnston City and Jerrie (Aaron) Essary of Johnston City; one son, Trint Smillie of Carterville; eight grandchildren; Colin and Ethan Parton, Mike, Benjamin, Alee, Jacob, Jerryn and Jaedon Essary; father, Alexander Barclay of Johnston City; three brothers, Alex Barclay of Christopher, Mike Barclay of Pinckneyville and Steve (Cindy) Barclay of DuQuoin; two sisters, Star Underwood of Marion and Linda (Michael) Murphy of Johnston City. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother and a granddaughter, MaeLee Rose Essary. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday 26, 2018 at Christian Life Church in Herrin with Rev. John Parton officiating.

Interment will follow in Miners Cemetery in Royalton. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
