Clara’s Obituary Clara Mae Hughes Beck, 82, of Old Highway 64 in Lexington went to meet her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 4, 2019. A graveside service will be held 11am Thursday, March 7 at Hedrick’s Grove Reformed United Church of Christ with Rev. William Sowers officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Clara was born in Davidson County on July 26, 1936 to Lindsay Lee Hughes and Lucille Varner Hughes. Clara was a member of Hedrick’s Grove Reformed UCC.

She had a servant’s heart and was involved in several groups including Women’s Fellowship at church and also in Sunday School where she was a teacher. Her serving also included being a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, for which she was recognized in the local paper. Her big heart also led her to work as a preschool teacher at the Martha Best Children’s Center at First Baptist Church in Lexington.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Michael Scott Beck, and a brother, Stoney Hughes. Surviving are her loving husband, Dale Beck, of the home; son, Chris Beck (Sandra) of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Mitchell Beck of King William, VA; brother, Silver Lee Hughes of Lexington; sisters, Gail Ligon of Lexington, Jill Mann of Thomasville, Kim Byerly of Lexington; and her pride and joy and namesake, granddaughter Claire Beck, who held a special part of her heart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hedrick’s Grove Reformed UCC Scholarship Fund, 3840 Allred Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
