Bryce’s Obituary Bryce Ward (Cotton) Bates age 84 of Welcome passed away Thursday May 30, 2019 at Hinkle Hospice House. Bryce was born February 19, 1935 in Davidson County to L.W. Bates and Susie Thomason Bates. He spent 4 years serving his country in The United States Air Force.

He joined his dad in Carpentry and made it his life’s career. He retired from A.T. Williams Oil Company in 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Leon Bates.

Bryce loved fishing at the NC Coast, gardening and his Little Jack Russell Terrier, Bella. His gardening speciality was growing tomatoes that he loved to share with friends, neighbors and relatives. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Sue Tussey Bates of the home.

His brothers, Claude Bates and Jimmy Bates both of Welcome. A private celebration of life will be at a later date.
