Clara Marie Patton, 87, of Owensboro, Kentucky died Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 21, 1932 in Daviess County, Kentucky, to the late Sam and Mary Belle Bowlds Payne. She retired from Daviess County Public Schools where she was employed as a custodian at Apollo High School.

Clara was a member of Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church and she loved her family and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John William “Buck” Patton.

She is survived by her children, Anna Wathen, Tom Patton (Darlene), Judy Patton, Sheila Sparks (Bobby) and John Patton, Jr.; eight grandchildren, James Patton, Jr. (Heather), Chris Patton (Crystal), Tonya Williams (Steve), Tim Patton (Kim), Sabrina Wathen, Amanda Clary (Danny), Zack Sparks (Ashley), and Shelby Sparks (Cody); twenty great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro.

Burial is in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho, KY. Visitation is from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, with prayers at 5:00 p.m. at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro and visitation is after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
