Constance Yvonne Douglas July 25, 1944 – February 28, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Constance Yvonne Brown Douglas, after several months of declining health and one week of critical illness, peacefully departed this life on February 28, 2019. She was born July 25, 1944 in Greensboro, NC, the second child of the late George C. Brown and Helen Bigelow Brown. She joined Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful and devoted member.

She served as the elected Financial Secretary for over 25 years without one negative vote. She graduated as valedictorian from Caswell County High School in Yanceyville, NC in 1962. She received her Bachelor of Science (BS – 1966) and a Masters of Science (MS – 1968) in zoology from Howard University in Washington, DC.

She worked for several years as a research and lab technician with various universities, including Duke University. She then worked in Research Triangle Park for over 30 years at Burroughs Wellcome Co., Lineberry Research Associates, Valeant Pharmaceuticals, and PAREXEL International in various clinical research roles including monitoring, study management, medical writing, and compliance. During her tenure, Connie mentored and trained a significant number of research staff in the area; her influence and legacy continue with each new generation of research professionals.

She spent much of her time working on medications to treat depression and smoking cessation; many of the drugs with which she helped with the Food and Drug Administration approval process are still being used to help patients. She married William LaDell Douglas on June 21, 1969 and from this union there were three children, Yolanda Adele Douglas Williams, and twins, Elvan David (deceased) and Ethan Devon Douglas. She is survived by one daughter, Yolanda Douglas Williams, PharmD, (Jon) and one son, Ethan, Douglas, PharmD ,(Sydney) of Durham, NC; two brothers, Costello L. Brown, PhD (Florida) of Altadena, CA and G. Bernard Brown, (Jasmine) of Los Angeles, CA; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Devine Douglas, Alexandra Delaney Douglas, Aidan Carter Douglas, Julian David Douglas, Alivia Bree Douglas, Evan Elizabeth Douglas, and Christian Hinson; a nephew, Eric D. Brown, MD; nieces Ninita H. Brown, MD, PhD Linda Y. Henderson-Smith, PhD and Shawn V. Laws; “special daughters” Donna Weise, Robin Lee, Jessica Hinson; and many loving cousins, friends, and associates.
