Daniel’s Obituary Daniel Kirby Phippen October 27, 1919 – January 27, 2019 Dan Phippen, beloved father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away in Tempe, Arizona on January 27, 2019 at the age of 99. Dan was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. He spent his summers in Atlanta, Idaho with his parents, uncles and aunts.

He attended University of Idaho serving in UI’s ROTC. He met his wife Muriel while studying Business there. They were married 70 years and spent many wonderful years in Germany and all over the United States while he served in the Air Force.

Upon his retirement as Colonel Phippen, Dan and Muriel settled in Tempe, Arizona. There Dan worked for Arizona State University for over 20 years, heading up ASU’s continuing education courses. Dan was a respected Tempe community member, and attended Church of the Epiphany-Tempe, where he served as a lay person and Vestry member.

He loved tending to the church grounds and garden. He volunteered as a driver/tour guide for Elderhostel and helped for years in the kitchen at Paz de Cristo Outreach Center, Mesa, Arizona. He moved to Friendship Village, Tempe, in 2009 where he volunteered in many capacities well into his 98th year.

He is survived by his daughters, Christine Phippen Engel, Bonnie Phippen (Mark Atchley) and son Dan Phippen (Christina Magliocco), grandchildren Gretchen Engel and Jeff Engel (Amber Chrystal) and great grand daughters Stella Engel, Eleanor Chrystal-Engel, and Beatrice Chrystal-Engel. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family asks in lieu of flowers to please donate to the Veterans of the Untied States Air Force.

A memorial service was held at the Church of the Epiphany-Tempe on February 2, 2019.
