Obituary of Daniel Ginnan Daniel J. Ginnan, age 82, of Houston, TX, formerly of Corning went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 25, 2018. Dan was born on January 11, 1936 in Caton to William and Inez (Dillon) Ginnan. He married Barbara Buchanan on July 25, 1959 and was predeceased by her on March 30, 2017.
Dan is survived by his children: Randy (Donna) Ginnan of Houston, TX, Roman (Mary Ann) Ginnan of Albany, NY, and Robin (Mark) Bulkley of Houston, TX; grandchildren: Lauren (Jeff) Hollis, Greg Ginnan, Brooks Ginnan, Ryan Ginnan, Brian Bulkley, Sam Bulkley, and Anna Bulkley; and great-grandchildren, Jack Hollis and Lila Hollis. Brothers and sisters: David (Sylvia), Roy (Sandy), Jack (Ella), Doug (Sybil), Mary Ginnan and Barb Lebednik (John). Many nieces and nephews.
Dan attended a one room schoolhouse in Caton, NY. He then attended Northside Blodgett High School in Corning until 1952. He subsequently enlisted in the US Army where he served at Fort Belvoir in VA as a Military Police.
One of his proudest accomplishments as an MP was providing security for President Dwight D. Eisenhower when he traveled on Air Force One. After his service in the Army, Dan returned to Corning where he worked as a carpenter and painter for various construction contractors. Dan then worked for and retired in 1998 from Corning-Painted Post Area School District’s maintenance department.
Dan faithfully attended and served for many years at the Caton Bible Chapel. He served as a youth leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Trustee. Dan was instrumental in the planning and construction of the current church building on Hendy Hollow Road in Caton.
He was a selfless giver of his time to the church and was never more than a phone call away to help with any task that needed to be accomplished. Dan loved to play and watch sports. Especially basketball, football and at the top of the list, baseball.
When his playing days were over, he coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball in Corning for several years. He also officiated basketball games for the C-PP School District. His passion, however was being a fan of the New York Yankees.
One of Dan’s most treasured moments as a fan was meeting Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, having a photo taken with him and receiving a copy of the photo signed by Andy. Another interest of Dan’s was local politics. Dan served as a Town of Corning board member and was Town Supervisor for 10 years.
He also served the Village of South Corning. A memorial service will be held at Caton Bible Chapel, 11297 Old County Road in Caton at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 17th with his son, Pastor Randy Ginnan, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Caton.
