Darlene’s Obituary Darlene Marie (Filipek) Kummer Edwards, 79, Bismarck, ND, formerly of Minot, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Darlene was born March 4, 1940, the daughter of Charles V. Filipek and Sophronia (Van Housen) Filipek in Minot, ND. Darlene and her older brother, Charles L. Filipek were raised and educated in Minot.

Darlene graduated Minot High School in 1958. Following her high school graduation, she attended the Trinity School of Nursing in Minot. She met and married James Kummer of Anamoose, ND.

From this union, two sons, Michael (1960) and Jeffery (1962) were born. Darlene and James separated and divorced in 1972. Darlene returned to work in the medical profession and pursued her education while meeting her second husband, Jack Edwards of Northgate, ND.

They were united in marriage in 1973 and from this union, her third son, Spencer Edwards was born in 1974. While living in Northgate, Darlene was employed as a customs broker. Upon Jack’s death in 1986, Darlene and Spencer moved to Bowbells, ND, and then in 1989 to Minot, where she pursued a career in Real Estate.

She continued to work and live in Minot until health issues required her to move into Edgewood Assisted Living in Bismarck in 2017. Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Charles (1971); mother, Sophronia (1989); brother, Charles (2019); son, Jeffery Kummer (2000); first husband, James Kummer (2017) and second husband, Jack Edwards (1986). She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Sandra Kummer, Floyds Knobs, IN, and Spencer and Stephanie Edwards, Bismarck, ND; four grandchildren, Thomas Kummer, Sarah Kummer, Breanna Edwards and Jordyn Edwards; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Friday, May 31, 2019, at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Minot, where she was a longtime member. Burial: White Hall Cemetery, White Hall, IL next to her loving husband, Jack Edwards. Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
