David Ray Grindstaff ,”Tammys Charlie”, 60, of the Blue Rock Community, passed away unexpectedly Friday September 28, 2018 at his home. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna Mae Hollifield Grindstaff. He grew up in the Bear Creek community.

He had been associated with the Newspaper Industry for more than 30 years, currently as Editor and photographer with the Yancey Common Times Journal. His passions were nature photography and covering the Tri-County area High School Sporting Events. Other interests were, pottery, camping, hiking, his herb garden, cooking and old cars.

Native American artifacts were a lifetime interest. Surviving are his wife, Tammy Franklin Grindstaff. His children: Windy Joe Grindstaff and Gray Dan Grindstaff of the home.

Brothers: Chuck Grindstaff and Steve Grindstaff. Sisters: Renita Stroup and Lisa Grindstaff. Several nieces and nephews and a special friend Joy Wilson.

A Celebration of Davids life will be held at 6 P.M. Monday Oct. 1, 2018 at Holcombe Brothers, where family and friends are invited to share memories. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6 at the funeral home.

A scholarship fund is being established, the family asks memorials be made in his memory.
